the mom page.

Latest update: April 21, 2021.

Mom… a couple of things: I get a kick out of you reading this, but I have to say… it pales in comparison to the proposals I used to do for the agency. (Also, I re-read this one myself yesterday, and it’s full of typos.) The real story here is I put it together in record time… 2/3 days including all the creative. And about the costs we quote at the end – I don’t get all that money, it gets split up between me and the account executive, plus we have to pay photographers, art directors, video crews, equipment rentals and so on.

WOW.

Okay, I’m only putting this video here because I was so impressed by the young lady who tells this story. (Plus I love aviation stories, espionage, Cold War stuff, and I learned things here I never knew.) But again… this girl looks like she’s in her early 20s… and she stares right at the camera and tells this 40 MINUTE story – in incredible detail – without even a hiccup, or having to refer to notes, or anything. And keep in mind, Gary Powers was shot down some 60+ years ago, decades before her time. (Why does she even care???) Like I said, very interesting… but not for everyone.

the doorbell I was telling you about.

If you think this is a good idea, I could install it or Kevin could install it. He does great work (obviously better than me) and he could put it on your front porch – as opposed to near the driveway. Later tonight, I will put the Rita Hayworth / Astaire / Elvis video up here, And the Chico Marx piano playing. Stay tuned…

To get the full effect, turn the volume UP.

Though it’s Elvis singing, the music was re-recorded in 2013 with better studio musicians. The horns / piano and guitar parts are also amazing.

Chico Marx on piano.

The video below is just Chico having fun. But when he gets serious and starts playing something really hard, like Chopin, it doesn’t get any better. The guy was easily a top five 20th century piano player. For some more, tap this link:

this just in:

now this… is a game-changer.

And it means we’ll have to vacuum the den and living room before the next Michael visit!

And another…

The Longest Week.

Update: we watched this movie this afternoon… it’s beautifully shot, but boring. YOu may want to pass unless you’re desperate for something (ANYTHING) to watch!

Mom… we just found this movie on Youtube. We haven’t watched it yet, but it has good people in it and the reviews are all 5-star. Typical from the Hollywood Post: “I've waited a long time to see a film like this. A simple story, beautifully shot with an enchanting soundtrack. Like others, I'm now completely turned off by the big budget, green screen, CGI 'blockbusters' that now seem to infest our cinemas, and was delighted to just sit back and let this quiet little story wash over me.”

Mom, I’m surprised this movie is available for free. And I’m wondering if that’s because I have a Youtube account. Please let me know: are you able to play this movie, or not?

This one got good reviews as well.

Academy Award Winner Jennifer Connelly and Anthony Mackie (The Avengers) star in a riveting story of survival. Two strangers will find each other and rise above their struggle to get off of the streets of New York.

Another new movie: ride.

This one said “mother / son comedy” so I figured I’d put it here:

This one sounds like something you might like:

“A pharmaceutical sales rep visits a small town in Louisiana on business. He finds himself in a dark world of corruption and murder with 24 hours to live, running from the police, the mob and a sheriff that wants him dead.”

And a One, and a two… and a one two three four…

This just seemed appropriate for the “MOM PAGE.”

just some random photos.

I think mike might like this:

You know the little speech that airline stewardesses give about airplane safety before taking off? Fasten your seatbelt, stow your carry-ons, tray tables up, etc? Well this is the speech that PILOTS would give to passengers, if they were given the chance. I think it was interesting, and funny at times.

The Joe Namath Story. very entertaining.

After watching the two recent documentaries on Michael Jordan and Tiger Woods, I went looking for more, and I came across this 90 minutes special on Joe Namath. It’s good, I enjoyed it!

The new Top Gun movie trailer.

I know your a Top Gun fan. This commercial is set to run during the Super Bowl.

WWII Testimonial

I think I’ve seen almost 50 of these WWII stories, as told by the soldiers who were there. It’s amazing to me what these guys remember, given most are now over 95 years old. I saw one a few weeks ago (which I can’t find now) where the guy was talking about a particular mission in incredible detail… what the weather was like, how he needed new socks, what his buddies did and said, it was absolutely incredible. The guy landed on Omaha beach, and took part in Market Garden and the Battle of the Bulge as part of the 101st Airborne.

Here’s another one.

Like I said, there are hundreds of these. Maybe it’s just me, but I find these stories fascinating. I once had a job interviewing WWII soldiers for the National Constitution Center. I traveled the country (Kansas City / New Orleans / Vermont / Seattle / etc, and I came away thinking “The Greatest Generation” is not an exaggeration.

July 1969 • Surf City NJ

This was a place that the Ross’s rented on the ocean end of 16th street, right? (I’m not sure.)

1A.png

July 1969 (?)

(Below.) This appears to be the same table and room as the photo above, and I do remember drinking with Nancy and Pat, but I do NOT remember Robin Weinstein and Kimmy being at the house the same time Bruce, Brian and Mark Reimer were there. (I’m pretty sure this was when Dad was in the Abington Hospital after his first heart attack, and you were home in Willow Grove.) I also remember sitting at this table watching a tiny TV with very bad reception when Armstrong walked on the moon for the first time.

1B.png

And then P.J. walks in…

… and her mother starts acting all prim & proper, posing like she’s sitting for a portrait shot. Very funny.

1H.png

Mr. Oakley had a Woody???

I forgot all about that car. (Tap this blue sentence to see a classic Woody photo.) That kid “Ricky” sitting next to Andy was weird.

1C.png

Family vacation

Two days in Binghamton NY to see one of dad’s customers. I believe this photo was taken at a Howards Johnson’s Motel on the way home. You and dad picked motels with pools and that was the “vacation” part.

1D.png

A photo of Bucket that I sent to dad:

Sitting in Dad’s favorite chair. (As dogs go, Bucket was very special.)

1E.png

Two neighborhood kids.

Rob Tofani and Mike Canazaro. And Bucket. I wish I had a photo of Debbie Canazaro – best I can remember, she had a “Cher” thing going on.

1I.png

The Reimers

I didn’t even know I had this shot. But over the years, when I thought back to Patty babysitting us (until she broke a lamp when the 3 of us were rough-housing), I thought she was awesome and I totally had a crush on her. And looking at this photo, wow… she looks EXACTLY how I remembered. Some 50+ years go by and it turns our that the picture I had of her — only in my mind — was right on the money!

1J.png

Bobby Walston???

I think this was taken at an Eagles practice in Reading PA, but it does NOT look like the Eagle's old practice field in Reading, it looks more like the field behind Woodlawn School. Walston was a wide receiver… but look how small he is compared to today’s players. His last year in Philadelphia was 1962, so this shot was taken while JFK was in office.

1G.png

FAST FORWARD 30 YEARS…

Captain Mike leading the way with Ryan hanging off the back of the boat. I always liked this shot. Mike looks like a captain, the man in charge, and Ryan is in his own world.

Moonstruck.

I can’t believe I didn’t find this sooner. I’m told women LOVE this movie.

They Came Together

Please try his one. It’s a very recent movie. I never saw it, but Paul Rudd is maybe the best romantic comedy guy these days, and Amy Poehler is fun.

Bernie.

I know nothing about this movie except it good really good reviews, and Jack Black is always good.

The 9/11 Timeline.

I thought this might be good because it was done by, of all people, NFL Films. (Their stuff is usually good.) The descriptions says: September 11th' tells the story of how the events of September 11, 2001, impacted the entire NFL and specifically the New York Giants, New York Jets and Washington Redskins, from the decision to cancel the games the following week to personal stories of those directly impacted by the day's events.

Diana: The Royal Truth.

The description says: A captivating first hand account of the life of one of the most iconic figures of the 20th century, Diana Princess of Wales, by the man who lived through it all. With exclusive insight and anecdotes prepare to uncover the heartbreaking true story of the most photographed woman in the world and the mother of the future King.

Catch Me If You Can | Frank Abagnale

This is getting great reviews. (I did not see it.) Remember the movie “Catch Me If You Can”? With Leonardo Dicaprio and Tom Hanks? About the con artist? This is the actual guy, the con man. Here, he gives a talk and tells his story. Two typical reviews: “Incredibly articulate gentleman. The hour flew by. Also enjoyed the advice at the end.” Also: “This guy's so slick, i checked my pockets a few times during his speech.”

Greatest Acting Monologues Of All Time PART 2.

There are a lot of these “greatest acting monologues”. If you like them and want more, let me know!

A scene from bridesmaids. Warning, read this first:

Did you ever see the movie Bridesmaids? We loved it. I just found this scene where the soon-to-be bride goes shopping for a dress with her bridesmaids. (It’s a stupid funny movie, where 2 bridesmaids keep fighting because they both want to impress the bride.) What they don’t tell you, is that in that the bridesmaids all have food poisoning but don’t know it – yet. Warning – if this gets too gross for you, be ready to turn it off. Me, I admit, I laughed my ass off.

meet your second wife.

You know how many men marry younger women? This sketch has fun with that. (I thought it was funny!)

Legally Blond the musical

This is a Broadway show, a musical/comedy. It’s 2 hours long. I have no idea if it’s any good… I watched a few minutes and it did look cute. You tell me!

One of my all-time favorite SNL sketches.

Maybe it’s just me… maybe it’s because I’ve monitored lots of focus groups… but this sketch kills me.

I love this. (Read description).

A couple of years ago, Bruno Mars hd a hit song called “Uptown Funk.” An editor somewhere gathered old clips of old dancers (from the movies) and cut dance scenes to the song. This was the result. Fantastic job (and 55 million views.)

A young father put this video up on Youtube.

A “Hollywood Shot.”

Me, Marilyn and Gracie went to the park the other night and we made this crazy shot. We call it “Planet Gury.” (It’s only a few seconds long.)

Shhhhh… Don’t wake the Baby! P.S. Turn your volume up. He’s quite the snorer…

BAth time. (These next 2 shots are not videos, they are still photos.)
